Strong passwords are an easy and essential security measure that many individuals overlook. A lot of people create obvious and easy-to-crack passwords and use them across multiple websites. The rules of creating a good password are simple and rather easy to follow.
- Always make your passwords longer than six characters
- Include a blend of uppercase, lowercase, numbers and special characters
- Don’t use a name or any word in the dictionary
- Try using a phrase instead of a word
- Don’t use the same password on multiple sites
All of these rules are necessary for creating a good password but the last one is particularly important. If someone gains access to one of your accounts, all of your accounts may become vulnerable if you use the same password on every site.
Keeping track of multiple passwords can be tiring but there are lots of tools to help you do just that, such as KeePass and Tiny Password, which works on Android devices. At any rate, remembering multiple passwords is much easier than having all of your accounts hacked.
